The National Resistance Movement electoral commission chairman Tanga Odoi has praised presidential hopeful Robert Kyagulanyi for ‘standing for what is right’.
Odoi, who was speaking on NBS TVs’ Morning Breeze however, cautioned Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine not to be exploited.
This follows news that the Kyadondo East legislator had written to the Electoral Commission, saying he intends to carry out consultations over his 2021 presidential bid.
“I now write in line with section 3(3) to of the Act to introduce myself to you as an aspiring presidential candidate and accordingly notify you of my intention to carry out nationwide consultations. I also intend to carry out other activities envisaged by the Act as stipulated above,” Kyagulanyi’s December 3 letter to the EC chairperson reads in part.
Section 3 of the Presidential Elections Act 2005 (1), (2) and (3) states: “An aspirant may consult in preparation for his or her nomination as a presidential candidate within 12 months before nomination date. While consulting, a presidential aspirant may carry out nationwide consultations, prepare his or her manifesto and other campaign materials, raise funds for his or her campaign through lawful means and convene meetings of national delegates.”
In response, Odoi aid Kyagulanyi was free to do what he wants just like any other Ugandan.
“I am sorry to call him a boy but he is a boy. A good boy. Him and his wife are good people. However, let him not be exploited by some people,” he said, without explaining.
Kyagulanyi now hopes police will not interfere with his consultative meetings.
