We all like to get some beauty benefits out of steaming, but sometimes we do it wrong and in return it makes the procedure useless.

For those who didn’t know, steaming helps to open skin pores, it moisturizes the skin, prevents pimple development among other benefits.

Skin benefits aside, doctors say steaming also improves one’s respiration problems and it’s good to do it at least once in a while for several health benefits too.

Here is how you can do an effective steaming at home.

Boil water

Put a reasonable amount of water in a water heater, kettle, saucepan or anything that you can use to boil water, and leave it to boil up to 100 degrees.

Wash your face

As the water is boiling, wash your face with clean water to remove dirt or makeup from your face. Since steaming opens the skin pores, washing of the face before helps to prevent dirt from entering the pores in the process of steaming. It’s also easy for steam to enter the pores of a clean skin.

Pour the hot water in a small bucket

You can use a small bucket, bowl or anything that can hold a reasonable amount of water, then pour the hot water in the bowl to start the steaming.

How to do it

Hold your face over the steam that’s coming out of the hot water. Don’t draw your face too close to the steam especially if you have a sensitive skin for it might cause inflammations or irritations on the skin.

If you have a towel the better, cover your head with the towel to create a sort of tent over your face and keep your face over the steam for about 10 minutes.

Remember to close your eyes and breathe deeply to allow the heat to awaken your face and open the skin pore.

After the process, dry your skin and leave it to rest for a few minutes, then apply your usual skin care products.

Other benefits that comes after steaming include, Promotes circulation, its hydrating, makes it easy for the skin to absorb skin care products, helps with sinus congestion, its affordable and accessible among other benefits.
