Singer Ronald Mayinja is currently living in fear after unknown people called and threatened to end his life if he doesn’t desert politics.
Mayinja alleged that these threats started after his recent performance at Catherine Kusasira’s concert where he had a clash with President Yoweri Museveni.
Museveni, who was the guest of honor at Kusasira’s Tears of a Woman concert last Friday, suffered an embarrassment when Mayinja performed his Bizeemu song, criticizing the President.
In this controversial song, the singer states that most of the things which forced Museveni and colleagues to go to the bush to fight the previous government such as insecurity, high crime rates, poor health care, and price fluctuations among others are now the order of the day.
In response, the President said Mayinja was not right, as nothing had been repeated.
“Singing is good because it’s entertaining and carries a lot of meaning. However, there is someone who has been on the stage and distorted facts saying ‘Bizemu’. He’s not right because the government that we replaced was the one killing people so that is why we went to the bush and took over power,” Museveni said.
Now the singer has come out to seek help.
“I’ve started receiving call threats from unknown people, warning me on issues concerning politics,” Mayinja said during an interview with Spark TV’s live wire on Wednesday.
During a previous interview with Watchdog Uganda recently, Mayinja said that he doesn’t regret performing that song in front of Museveni, but rather very happy that the message portrayed in the song was well received by the people concerned.
