Professor Apolo Robin Nsibambi will be buried on June 4.
Prof. Nsibambi, Uganda’s longest serving Prime Minister (1999-2011), died of cancer on Tuesday evening at his home in Rubaga division aged 78.
According to family spokesperson Geoffrey Zziwa, the former Prime Minister’s body will be taken to Parliament for so that legislators can their last respects.
From Parliament, the body will be taken to his residence for the vigil.
On Monday prayers will be held at the deceased’s home.
On Tuesday a church service will be held at Saint Paul’s Cathedral, Namirembe starting at 9:00 am up to 1:00 pm. His body will later be laid to rest at Kasero Church of Uganda Buloba in Wakiso District at 4:00 pm.
Juliet Kasujja, Nsibambi’s daughter said that her father will be buried beside his late wife.
“He will be laid beside our late mother,” said Kasujja.
Meanwhile, President Museveni has praised Nsibambi’s contribution to the country, saying he bridged the gap between Buganda and the Central government
“I met Nsibambi while I was still in the bush, Nsibambi as a monarchist worked hard to bridge the gap between the bush war fighters who had just come into power and leading the central government and the Mengo government,” he said on Wednesday at Nsibambi’s home.
The President asked mourners to work for their country before they die.
“God created death and we cannot avoid it, but what matters is what contribution you made to society when you were alive,” he said.
