Ntungamo: Leaders urged to be transparent and accountable

Civic and political leaders have been urged to be transparent and accountable if democracy and service delivery are to be realized across the country.

According to Principal Assistant Secretary (PAS) Ntungamo district Fedelis Kiiza, lack of transparent and accountability has frustrated development and economic growth especially in local government.

Kiiza made the remarks on Monday during the first council and presiding over the swearing in of Speaker and executive members of Ihunga Sub County after the operational of Kagarama town council where the new committee members were elected including speaker.

He also urged council members to always work towards the fulfillment of the Ihunga sub county mission saying that they should build a strong teamwork.

The female youth  councilor Atuhaire Glory was unanimously elected unopposed as sub county speaker  in the nomination which was presided over by the Ntungamo district returning officer Beine Robert and she will be deputized  by Mubangizi Denis councilor from Kitondo parish.

Others elected were Abudallah Sebaka as vice chairperson, Karyeja Boss secretary of finance, planning and community, Phoebe Ntegyereize secretary for Education and sports, Asumpitah Musimiseki secretary for health and sanitation and Biryabarema Kenneth as chairperson for general purpose.

Atuhaire hailed the councilors for entrusting her with speaker-ship position and promised to serve them diligently.

She called upon the district authorities to always organize induction trainings for new political leaders such that they can understand the rules of procedure.

 While handing over tools power, the former Ihunga sub county speaker who is now speaker Kagarama Town council Ronnie Nyanzi tasked them to be visionary leaders if they are to succeed.

The chairperson Ihunga sub county Rubagyera Jackson Muheebwa commended the council for being developmental which enabled them to produce Kagarama town council.

Rubagyera told the council that enterprise committees have been formed under operation wealth creation to demand inputs that would benefit the communities instead of receiving inputs which are not asked for.

 He thanked the sub county chief Ainomugisha Coleta for being principled and guiding well council.

The sub county chief Ainomugisha Coleta rallied all councilors to cooperate and work together for the development of Ihunga Sub County.

The council session was climaxed by awarding certificates of appreciation to former councilors and  CAO Ntungamo Kweyamba Ruhemba for donating land where new sub county headquarters are being built.
