Former Democratic Party President Dr. Paul Kawanga Ssemwogerere (86) recently caught up with his longtime colleagues Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda (Prime Minister) and Gen. Moses Ali (Deputy Prime Minister) he left in President Yoweri Museveni’s cabinet 23 years ago.
Dr. Ssemogerere resigned from cabinet in June 1995 after holding ministerial posts in Internal affairs, Foreign affairs and Public service consecutively as well as serving as deputy prime minister since 1986.
He was also minister and leader of opposition in the previous governments. Uganda’s political history is incomplete without him.
But just like Pope Benedict, the moment he called it quits, he never looked back to date, thus giving an opportunity to new generational leaders to emerge.
