Under the theme “involving the youths for quality healthcare”,Kansanga based university Kampala International University [KIU] has decided to give back to both the students and the community at large through offering free health services.
The three day health camp as organized by the University in partnership with Health Advocacy Group commenced on Thursday and will end on Saturday 9 September, 2017 at the University Main Campus.
Janice Busingye, the Deputy Vice Chancellor for finance said that many Ugandans do not believe in preventive care but rather only wait for the time when they are sick and get to the hospitals to be treated.
“We should change our mindset and get to know our status always” Said Busingye.
The ongoing health camp involves free voluntary HIV testing and counseling, cancer screening [breast and cervical], diabetes, dental and eye care among others.
The project coordinator of Health Advocacy Group James Odeke said that youths make over 70% of the total population which needs a lot of concentration in terms of health.
Odeke noted that they have a target of 3000 people who shall be tested and once one is found positive in any disease, he or she shall be referred to a bigger hospital or the KIU Ishaka hospital.
