Health Ministry launches Sanitation Week

The Ministry of health has launched the national sanitation week with the official event held in Iganga.

The Director Curative Services in the ministry who represented the Minister Of Health Dr.Jane Ruth Aceng asked stakeholders in newly initiated parish development model to sensitize residents about health matters concurrently to avoid unhygienic diseases.

The launch of National Sanitation Week with theme good sanitation and hygiene for strengthening Covid -19 response was held on Wednesday at Bulamagi sub county headquarters in Iganga district

The occasion was graced by leaders in different capacities and pupils/students from different schools who sensitized the gathering about health through songs.

The leaders in the area used the event to ask government to improve on health services in the community.

Iganga District Chairperson Ezera Gabula and the woman Member of Parliament Sauda Kauma Alibaawo asked the government to elevate Iganga general hospital to a referral status because of the high number of patients with limited services.

Kigulu south Member of Parliament Milton Muwuma revealed how the parliamentary health committee is making amendments in the health law to address various health issues.

The Iganga resident district commissioner, Deborah Mwesigwa warned to carry out operations to households without latrines in the sanitation week.

The Director Curative Services in the Ministry of Health, Dr.Charles Olaro who represented Dr Aceng called upon leaders to always sensitize locals about sanitation to avoid government expenditure on unhygienic diseases.

Olaro also appealed to stakeholders who will run the newly initiated Parish Development Model to sensitize locals concurrently about the health matters for a healthy community.

Iganga Deputy District health officer Karim Muluga appealed to residents to embrace hygiene in their respective areas especially by digging latrines which are at 89% in the district.
