President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni says Uganda is working on it’s own Covid-19 vaccine which if released will be more effective than all those on the market now.

The Head of State made the revelation during his Friday June 18 public address on the Covid-19 situation in the country.

While giving an update on the vaccination program that kicked off in March this year, Museveni warned that the available vaccines may not effectively guard receipients against some clans or variants.

This, the President said was information according to the British Prime Minister,Boris Johnson.

By implication, Museveni was sounding a warning to the public to remain vigilant even after getting fully vaccinated against the virus disease.

In a message of hope to Ugandans however, Museveni said that local scientists are in the process of coming up with an improved vaccine which will guard against all the virus variants once released.

Museveni also assured that there is a cure being tested to treats patients infected. This, he said was at an advanced stage already.

Out of the 70 people upon which it had been tested, as many as 58 had fully recovered.

He however noted that a drop in infections from April had slowed down the process since there were no patients for the experiment. With a surge in numbers currently, the President said the 120 people threshold for the experiment stage of the treatment will have been achieved by the 25th of June.

Museveni’s message comes at a time when he had just announced a complete lockdown for a second time will certainly distribute some hope to the already distressed public.
