Egypt’s Pyramids FC unveils former Cranes manager Desabre as new boss

Former Uganda Cranes head Coach Sebastien Desabre has been named as the new head coach at Egyptian top division side Pyramids Football Club.

The club finished third in the Egyptian Premier League table to qualify for CAF Confederations Cup for the first time in their history.

He replaces Ramon Diaz, who was appointed as Pyramids’ new manager back in February 2019, succeeding Hossam Hassan who was sacked by the club following a 3-3 draw with Cairo giants against Zamalek in the league.

Desabre’s appointment comes barely a couple of hours after he decided to end his employment contract with the Federation of Uganda Football Association (Fufa) as Uganda Cranes head coach.

“The work environment in Egypt is brilliant, I am here to win trophies and acieve titles,” Desabre told the contracts’ signing press conference.

The Frenchman was linked to a number of offers from Egyptian sides with giants Al-Ahly also among the named sides.

However, it is FC Pyramids, formerly Al-Assioty Sports Club which is owned by business man Salem Al-Shamsy that seemed to impress with a two-year contract.

The 43-year-old previously served as head coach at Ismaily FC in Egypt before he decided to try his trade at the national team, joining the Cranes in December 2017.

“When I was in charge of Ismaily, my target was to win the Egyptian Premier League title. It is important that I reach the same goal with the Pyramids,” he is quoted as having said by local press

“I will do my best to win the league title and the African Confederations Cup title,” the former Uganda coach added

Desabre guided the Cranes to their first ever win and appearance in the knock out rounds of the African cup of nations tournament since 1978, before they were knocked out by Senegal at the round of 16.

He had previously coached ESC Rocheville in France (as assistant coach), ASEC Mimosas, CS Garoua, ES Tunis, Club Recreativo Desportivo Libolo, Dubai Club, JS Saoura and Morocco’s Wydad Athletic Club.
