Up to 70 Ugandan students have acquired scholarships to study in Algeria this year, says Ugandan diplomat in Algiers, John C. Alintuma Nsambu.
Nsambu who was posted to Algeria this year told this website that there are already more than 300 Ugandan students in the country studying different courses and it was his job to grow the Ugandan community in the country. He said the 70 scholars are taking up their places in various universities across the country.
The former ICT minister with a track record for attracting investors into Uganda, said Algeria has good universities offering hands on courses in Information and Communication Technologies, Petroleum studies, Agriculture among others which Ugandans can take advantage during his tour of duty.
The politician turned diplomat is now overseeing Ugandan interests in Mauritania, Morocco and Tunisia. He said he has started on doubling the number of scholarships next year so that more students can benefit from Algerian high class education.
Algeria, the largest country in Africa, has the second largest reserves of oil on the continent. Uganda, which is setting up its oil infrastructure, is looking at Algeria among the countries to learn key lessons in managing the resource.
