A 31-year-old teacher at Triple M Primary School in Kabale has been arrested for allegedly defiling a 17-year-old pupil of the same school.
Ambrose Rukundo, a resident of Kibuzije village in Rubanda district, is alleged to have committed the offense on October 21, 2023, at about 10:00 am at Ahamurambi village in Kaharo sub-county, Kabale district.
According to police, Rukundo called the victim to the staff room where he was alone to bring books after which he forced her into a sexual act. He is also alleged to have given her 5,000/= after the act and told her not to tell anyone.
However, the victim informed her father who went and reported the matter to Njanja Police Station. Rukundo was subsequently arrested and the scene of the crime was visited and examined by police detectives.
according to the Kigezi region police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate, police were informed, a sketch plan was drawn, relevant statements from witnesses were obtained, and the victim was examined. Maate added that the case is still under investigation.
“It is important to remember that all students, regardless of age or gender, have the right to be safe in school. Sexual abuse is a serious crime, and it is important to speak out if you or someone you know has been abused.” Maate said.
