Four medics attached at Kabale Regional Referral Hospital have been arrested on orders of State House Health Monitoring Unit over accountability irregularities.
The medics whose identities are yet to be revealed due to extensive investigations, were arrested after the team from State House Health Monitoring Unit intervened, following outcry from the general public.
Dr Brian Arinitwe,the Deputy director of State House Health Monitoring Unit talking to our reporter at Mayors Gardens in Kabale Municipality on Tuesday revealed that two medics attached to the stores failed to account for logistics under their custody thus prompting their arrest.
Dr Arinitwe added that other two medics from the hospital were also arrested due to other irregularities.
“You want me to release their names,but I won’t because we’re (State House Health Monitoring Unit) still carrying out investigations and we shall reveal their identities later to you. Their files, however,are at police.They were arrested because they couldn’t account for government drugs,for fraud and uttering false documents,”Dr Arinitwe said.
The Health Monitoring Unit was established in August 2009 by the President under Article 171 of the Constitution of the Republlc of Uganda (1995) as a Medicines/Health Services Delivery Unit in response to the persistent public outcry on the poor medicines and health services delivery in the country.
The State House Health Monitoring Unit is mandated to monitor Health service delivery in Uganda.
