Kabale Regional Referral Hospital in Kabale Municipality has come under fire from locals over alleged negligence that resulted to the death of an expectant mother.
The incident which reportedly led to the death of one Sharon Asiimwe who had just given birth to a bouncing baby boy occurred on the 26th of April 2022. Asiimwe was a daughter in-law to the Kabale NRM Party registrar Morris Mugenga Kaitaba.
The relatives to the deceased accuse the midwives at the facility of negligence which resulted into the mother bleeding profusely shortly after giving birth.
They allege that the deceased was bleeding while midwives on duty were busy talking on their phones.
According to the letter dated 29th April, 2022, authored by Kabale Resident District Commissioner Godfrey Nyakahuma addressed to the criminal investigations department, investigations into the matter have been launched.
The RDC indicates that his office had received a complaint from the deceased’s family and instructed the criminal investigations department of police to take up the matter and furnish him with a comprehensive report on the matter and take necessary legal action.
Mr Nyakahuma further indicated that the conduct of the health workers on duty was a direct abuse of office and culpable for the loss of life which they were under obligation to protect and preserve in accordance with the line of duty.
The letter was copied to the district chairperson, Director Kabale regional referral hospital, Regional internal security officer, Regional crime investigations department of Kigezi, District internal security officer, and district police commander Kabale.
