Police in Napak district in Karamoja sub region have finally recovered two guns that were stolen by Karimojong armed warriors when they attacked the Lopei police post in Napak district.
The recovery of the guns ends one month of hunting for the cattle rustlers who took the guns.
Last month, a group of Karimojong cattle rustlers believed to be jie from Kotido attacked Lopei police post and overpowered the police.
The rustlers took off with two fully loaded guns creating panic among the general public.
The development made the police top administration close all the posts in five southern Karamoja districts and merged its officers with Anti stock theft Unit personnel.
Micheal Longole, the Karamoja regional Police spokesperson confirmed the recovery of the guns saying they were recovered on Saturday through an intelligence network.
According to Longole, the suspects ,after noticing that the security was almost getting them, abandoned their homes and left the guns with their relatives who handed them over to the police.
Longole Said that although all the two guns were recovered, no ammunitions were recovered and the two principal suspects are still at large.
“When these two suspects who are at large took the guns, each gun had 30 rounds of ammunition but not even a single bullet was given to us but we are hunting for them,” he said.
He congratulated the leaders and relatives of the suspects who helped in the recovery of the two guns.
Simon Loru a resident of Lopei however, asked the security to work hard and arrest the criminals adding that the lives of those who worked for the recovery of guns were at risk.
“Since these people are still at large, they will come with their colleagues still armed and kills us, so security should work hard and arrest them,” he appealed.
Kalisto Tebanyang, another resident, asked Police to reinstate the police post saying cases of robbery were increasing in the sub-county.
