The leader of the National Unity Platform, Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine has advised the Uganda Police Force to professionally find out why whenever a very important person in the country dies, there are always poison allegations put across.
Bobi Wine who was responding to Police for summoning him over alleged claims that the ex-Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah was poisoned, said that there are a lot of unanswered questions in the public on several deaths of high profile people in the country.
“These sentiments of summoning us, are fashioned to intimidate the public and to restrain them from speaking about the real cause of Jacob Oulanyah’s death. If they bring their summon letter I will go and tell them that I was in Gulu and people there are still doubting the death of Walter Ochola, Julius Oketa, Gen Paul Lokech and now Jacob Oulanyah died in a the same mysterious way,” he said.
“If you have heard a possibility of the crime in all this and you are not the suspect, why then intimidate people who speak about it?” the former presidential candidate further noted.
In the same way, Gilbert Olanya, the Kilak South lawmaker advised the Police to avoid the drama of summoning them but come out with a team to investigate the matter in a professional way.
“It’s very important to formulate a team to investigate this matter because it’s very much more important than scaring, intimidating and rubbishing what we are talking about.”
Also, the Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Dr Chris Baryomunsi advised the Police to find ways of counselling Mr Nathan L’Okori who just lost his son, instead of summoning him for questioning.
“Police should be professional in the way they do their work. Jacob Oulanyah’s father needs counselling to come to terms with the loss of his son, not police summons. At this rate, Police spokesperson Fred Enanga may end up summoning Jacob Oulanyah from the grave,” he told the press on Tuesday while at Uganda Media Centre.
On Monday during Police’s weekly press briefing, the Force’s spokesperson Fred Enanga revealed that Police were in preparations of summoning Nathan LO’kori, the father of the deceased former Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah, Bobi Wine, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) vice chairman for central Uganda, Godfrey Kiwanda Ssubi, ICT Minister Hon. Chris Baryomunsi, Dokolo South MP Felix Okot Ogong, Kilak South MP Gilbert Olanya, Northern Uganda based musician Bosmic Otim Okori for interrogation over alleged claims that the late Oulanyah was poisoned.
Enanga said, “From the medical records we have obtained, there was no presence of poison in his (Oulanyah’s) blood system. We want them to provide us with a chain of evidence regarding the poisoning as they allege. The file of offensive communication is ongoing at CID headquarters in Kibuli. In any allegation of death by poison, identification of poisonous samples in the body is crucial. According to the medical report, there was no trace of any poisonous samples in the body. Therefore, any other cause of death beyond the medical reports will be treated as dangerous speculation that must be avoided.”
Oulanyah died last month in Seattle, US and was buried last week on Friday at his home district in Omoro. According to medical reports, Oulanyah died of Lymphoma Cancer however poison allegations which were sparked off by his father have since made the public to get a second thought of what really killed the former Omoro County legislator.
