Police’s Criminal Investigations Directorate in Bukedi is investigating three officials of Tororo municipal council over allegations of embezzlement of funds.

The officials include Mayor Kennedy Orono Nyapidi, the Town Clerk Paul Omoko, and Municipal Engineer Francis Okema. On Tuesday, the officials were summoned over allegations of mismanaging more than 300 Million Shillings meant for road works.

Two weeks ago, during the district roads committee meeting, Members of Parliament demanded a probe into the allegation of mismanagement of Uganda Road Funds in Tororo municipality.

During the meeting, it was noted that most of the roads had not been worked on although money had been received. The MPs demanded accountability for Shs303 million that was used in the last four quarters.

The Tororo District Woman MP Sarah Achieng Opendi cited money released for Opira Road which has been accounted for but no work done.

Members of the municipal committee of Finance, Planning, and Works had also petitioned the office of the Resident District Commissioner to intervene in the alleged mismanagement of the funds received under the Uganda Road Fund.

‘’We the undersigned members of the finance and works committee of Tororo municipal council ask your office to initiate a probe into the mismanagement of Uganda Road Fund that council received amounting to over 303 million shillings,”read part of the petition.

The money was also meant to gravel, open and maintain several roads which have not been done as planned.
