We still need Kadaga in NRM, says party boss Namayanja

The ruling National Resistance Movement is strategizing to win back its political support in Buganda and Busoga Regions, the Party’s Treasurer General Rose Namayanja has disclosed.

Namayanja says the Secretariat under the able leadership of the Secretary General Justine Kasule Lumumba has already conducted detailed research to establish the reasons behind the poor show in these two regions.

“The detailed field report will soon be presented to the Central Executive Committee (CEC) for further input and guidance before implementing the proposed strategies”, she said.

The Treasurer General further said, the NRM might not have performed well in the Presidential elections in Busoga but walked away with over 90% of Parliamentary Flag bearers winning in their respective Constituencies. This, she said provides the basis for finding the appropriate measures to ensure the return of the Party’s massive victory in the subsequent elections to come. In Buganda with 105 Legislators, NRM has over 45 elected MPs including leaning Independents.

Namayanja was appearing on ‘Gakuwebwa munno’, a popular Luganda talk show aired by 88.8 CBS FM this Friday. The show host, Henry Mpiga made several attempts to push her into disclosing the strategy details but Namayanja insisted on having the details released (if found necessary) after the CEC approval.

She reminded Ugandans that this wasn’t the first time particular regions were giving NRM little support. She cited the Northern Region that once voted NRM with only 11% but the trend has since changed in favour of the ruling party. “Every time we face such a challenge, we sit back on the drawing table and strategise”, she emphasised.

THE SPEAKER’S RACE

Commenting on the recently concluded race for the Speaker & Deputy Speaker, Namayanja said NRM had registered milestones and that there is no worry for alleged divisions. She stated that majority of the 337 NRM Legislators respected the Party position and voted the Flag bearers which was a sign of political maturity and loyalty to their Party.

She said the slight differences that existed during the Speaker’s race would be handled internally but refuted allegations of dragging Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga into the Disciplinary Committee for defying the common position of the Party.

“No body has so far expressed official intention to the Secretariat to do so. We still need her and she has made reasonable contributions to the Party,” she said.

Namayanja said unity among the Party Members was key and that the Secretariat would continue placing more emphasis in this area.
