Uganda’s has recorded its highest daily confirmed coronavirus cases tally thus far after 84 cases tested positive on Saturday. The total confirmed cases now stand at 413.
According to the Ministry of Health, the total number of samples tested was 1,835. Of these, 358 were from alerts and contacts of previously confirmed cases while 1,477 were from border points.
“52 new cases are truck drivers. 50 of these arrived from South Sudan through Elegu border point, while 2 arrived from Kenya via Busia,” reads the statement.
32 of the new confirmed cases were contacts to previously confirmed cases. All were under quarantine at the time of test.

Uganda has so far registered 72 recoveries and no covid-19 related death.
President Museveni to address the nation:
President Museveni will address the nation on Monday, June 1 at 8p.m, ICT Minister Judith Nabakooba said on Saturday.
Ms. Nabakooba said President will guide the nation on the next steps to be taken before the current extended lockdown ends on June 4.
“H.E president @KagutaMuseveni will address the nation on matters regarding #COVID19 and the way forward, on Monday, June 1,2020 @ 8pm.
#StaySafeUG,” she wrote.
The President is expected to announce further lifting of the lockdown as the country works to control the spread of coronavirus.
President Museveni last week announced that Uganda will lift the current lockdown in a phased manner. Private cars have since returned on the road.
He also directed that public transport (buses, mini buses, taxis) would resume after proper preparation on June 4 but each will carry half of their loading capacity.
