Former Forum For Democratic Change Presidential Candidate, Col Dr Kiiza Besigye has congratulated Dr Stella Nyanzi upon her release from State dungeons where she has spent the last one and a half years.
In a statement released on his Facebook page shortly after the release of the former Makerere Don, Besigye praised his ardent follower for remaining firm in challenging the regime even under the hardest of situations.
“I heartily congratulate Dr Stella Nyanzi for remaining firm and defiant against the callous NRM/M7 Junta until today, when the High Court has set her free!” Besigye said in the statement.
After her conviction on charges of disturbing the peace of the President mid last year, Nyanzi challenged the ruling in August last year, receiving the outcome in her favour today.
After the ruling that over turned magistrate Kamusanyu’s earlier conviction today, she was again returned to Luzira prison, her home for the last one and a half years, to have her clearance processed.
She was however set free and driven to the safety of her home .
Besigye expressed reverence for the courage and spirit of Dr Nyanzi in relation to the struggle for change.
“Whether you agree or disagree with what Stella does or says, you’ve to salute courage and spirit of struggle for what she believes in. She’s a passionate freedom fighter- unbwoggable” Noted the FDC former founding leader.
