President Yoweri Museveni has urged political and religious leaders to desist from abusing the trust trust God has in them and also avoid corruption as well as taking bribes.

Museveni who was speaking during the 21st National Prayer Breakfast at Pearl of Africa Hotel in Kampala on Tuesday said that many people have misused the trust God has in them due to increased love for corruption countrywide right from the grass-root level up to the executive.

He added that most leaders in Uganda especially the elected ones have ruined their lives due to corruption thinking that electorates will vote them again by bribing them with waragi sachets and kilograms of pork.

“You have been given little trust and you abuse it, how will you get bigger trust from God? I have been watching for the past 60 years how people misuse their chances and end up becoming failures in life.

I have seen how people have ruined their chances certainly here on earth, I don’t know what happens in heaven. Don’t mock. Don’t agree to take bribes,” said Museveni.

Museveni asked leaders to emulate him because he has never taken any bribe from anybody or accepted or requested for one.

“Don’t be tempted, when given little trust don’t abuse it and God will give you a bigger one,” he said.

Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga also blamed leaders who have accumulated wealth, by diverting public funds for social development into buying their personal property such as land, schools among others. She added that such leaders have embezzled a lot of money to the extent that they fear keeping it in financial banks instead they have turned it into their mattress.
