Teachers and learners in various Mukono schools have expressed support to the proposed education reform geared at reversing what reformists call a pro-colonialist set up.
The reform intended to reflect drastic changes in the country’s education system is spearheaded by the Business Friends Afrioca (BFA), an elitist forum bringing together professionals in the sectors of education, health, environment, business communities and opinion leaders countrywide.
The quality education campaign by BFA is scheduled to be launched at Makerere University next week with local and visiting guest speakers making advocacy presentations.
The Headteacher for St. Frances Education Centre Namawojjolo Charles Matovu singled out neglect of vocational training by colonial designers, blaming this for bringing out half-baked products.
Twelve-year Chloe Namisi of Jesjonny Primary School, 12-year Ibrahim Njagala and 14-year Gift Owomugisha, both of Ntaawo Bright Grammar School, expressed the desire to see more African virtues incorporated into the education system.
Advocating for inclusion of vocational skills training, hair dressing trainers at Child Care and Youth Empowerment Foundation (CCAYEF) Agatha Namuddu and Resty Nabulime would like a curriculum boosted with technical training.
