The Uganda Police is investigating a case in which a UK- based international consultancy firm defrauded Uganda’s largest property mogul Dr Sudhir Ruparelia.

The feud is as a result of Sudhir’s Meera Investments claiming that FBW defrauded them Shs2.5 billion for the construction of both Speke Apartments Wampewo and Kabira Country Club extension.

The Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) Spokesperson Patrick Onyango confirmed that their South office opened a case and had recorded statements from both personnel of Meera and FBW under file KMP South, 131/2019.

According to the reliable sources, Meera Investments approached FBW in 2012 and the two signed a contract to construct Speke Apartments Wampeewo and the extension of Kabira Country Club.

The details further reveal that Meera gave FBW an upfront payment of Shs1 billion for the construction of Speke Apartments and Shs1.4 billion for the construction that was aimed at extending Kabira Country Club.

Meera said in the statement that the Kabira extension failed to kick off because the architecture company defrauded them yet they had already paid 90 per cent of the monies agreed on.

Under the copies of the agreement signed between the two companies, Meera Investment was supposed to have paid 30 per cent at the signing , 35 per cent between stages of construction and five per cent upon completion of the project.

“Meera Investments requested for working drawings so that the construction starts, however this did not happen,” Meera’s lawyer told New Vision newspaper on Saturday.

FBW is a UK design, architecture, and engineering-led, multi-disciplinary consultancy firm with operations in  Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda while Meera Investments is Meera investments a construction company incorporated in Uganda in 1994. It is one of the companies under the Ruparelia Group of companies. Meera investments has built a reputation for delivering innovative solutions in the construction of commercial and residential structures throughout the country.
