Pamela Karamagi, the Mbarara Chief Magistrate was on Thursday reportedly rushed to Butabika Mental Hospital after suffering from a mental illness.

The Judiciary spokesperson Solomon Muyita was reportedly saying that Karamagi has been given a Medical Leave and now receiving medical attention following reports about her state of mental stability.

Muyita added that the Magistrate has

Her colleagues however, and several people we spoke to say, this was a well orchestrated plot to blackmail the Magistrate because she was working on a sensitive file.

“Pamela has been working well until last month when she started complaining about someone who wants to kill her,” Karamagi’s close friends said. Our sources say Karamagi is being tormented for information privy to her, where someone big in the judicial hierarchy, would have to answer. In a move to pre-empt her move, she was branded “mad”.

In a press  release from the Judiciary, Esther Nambayo the chief Registrar said that  there were numerous complaints that Her Worship Karamagi suffers from a yet to be determined condition and she could no longer perform her duties a reason we had to recall her and take for medical attention.

However it should be asked how fast the judiciary moved to contain and issue explanations on the Magistrate’s private health, which is unusual. We are studying further information before us to establish the validity that Karamagi was working on a rape case involving a senior official in the judicial hierarchy.

Pius Bigirimana, the new Permanent Secretary/Secretary to the Judiciary, said Ms. Karamagi’s condition has been carefully discussed by the Management.
