Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) has given out 22 heifers to farmers in Kibaale District.

Dr. Immaculate Akusekera, the District Veterinary Officer on Thursday told journalists that 22 farmers received Springer (pregnant),Friesian and Guanze breeds which are tolerant to the environment in the district and they have the capacity to provide large quantity of milk.

Betty Nankidu the district Deputy Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) said the beneficiaries are from 10 sub counties and One Town council with average of two farmers from each area.

She however warnsed that any farmer who sells off the heifers will be arrested adding that sub county extension workers and Veterinary officers are obligated to monitor these beneficiaries on top of giving them technical advice.

Kibaale Resident District Commissioner Kibaale Deborah Mbabazi, said given the government intervention to ensure income boost in homes, farmers need to do more to care for the heifers if they are to harvest money from them since they (animals) are delicate.

On the other hand, some of the beneficiaries expressed concerns over the scarcity of vaccines which they say is expensive and difficult to access. They asked OWC to provide them with starter kits and medicine.

The RDC in response advised the complaining beneficiaries to instead leave the heifers for others who have capacity to look after them though no one was willing to abide by the request.
