President Museveni has cautioned Kasese resident to ‘stop crying for the government’s help and start working for themselves and their families’.

The district is a stronghold of the opposition Forum for Democratic Change party, with most of the district representatives in Parliament hailing from the party.

In the last four presidential elections, Kizza Besigye, the FDC candidate has often won resoundingly.

The President, who commissioning an irrigation scheme in Kasese District also encouraged them to embrace the nature of climate and land that God gave them.

“You must differentiate between development such as roads or electricity and your individual income (wealth). NRM government has brought you development but you must work for your wealth by using the development brought to you. Stop calling government for help on issues of your family, be citizens of responsibility,” Museveni said at a rally at Karambi Primary School in Bwera Town Council. .

“I urge you to implement the four-acre plan that I keep talking about. Have several enterprises like coffee growing, dairy rearing, poultry keeping and fruit farming. For those with less land in this area, consider growing high-value crops like apples or pineapples.”

Museveni promised to continue supporting agriculture in Kasese by rehabilitating all failed projects such as Mubuku Irrigation Scheme and Kilembe mines where people will get employment opportunities to improve on their livelihoods.
