Cynthia Munwangari, the girlfriend of city businessman Mathew Kanyamunyu has asked High Court in Kampala to try her in French.

Munwangari, along with Mathew and his brother Joseph Kanyamunyu are accused of murdering social worker Kenneth Akena in 2016.

The trio appeared in court on Tuesday.

Pleading before Justice Steven Mubiru, Munwangari said she is not well conversant with English and it would be better to get her a French translator  or try her in French, a language she understands well.

According to court regulations, the accused is allowed to choose a language she/he understands most to be used in court.

Court was then adjourned to January 21, 2019.

Prosecution alleges that on November 12, 2016, Mathew Kanyamunyu and Munwangari, shot Akena after he allegedly scratched their car at Lugogo Nakawa.

Akena died in Norvic Hospital in Kampala.

However, the couple claims that they only acted out of good will to transport Akena who was badly bleeding.

On the other hand, Joseph Kanyamunyu is accused of hiding a firearm which his brother used to kill Akena.

Last year in October, Kanyamunyu was granted bail after spending over 11 months in Luzira Prison.
