Justine Bagyenda has pleaded, before the Parliamentary Committee on Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (Cosase), for the release of Job Turyahebwa and Juliet Adikolet.
Turyahebwa and Adikolet were arrested last week by Parliamentary Police on the orders of Cosase chairperson Abdu Katuntu after they were caught lying under oath about the movement of classified documents from the Bank of Uganda.
Bagyenda, the former BoU Executive director in charge of Supervision on Commercial Banks, while appearing before Cosase on Monday, said if the on going probe into the central bank is not targeting individuals, then her driver, Turyahebwa and bodyguard, Adikolet should be set free.
“I thank you honorable members for understanding my predicament. I, however, ask for one request from the committee; that the bodyguard and the driver are set free in order to find justice,” said Bagyenda, who was appearing before the committee following three previous snubs and threats to have her arrested.
However, her request was not granted but instead Katuntu said the driver and the body guard lied on the oath which is a big case to answer.
“If you say justice should find its way then it is finding its way. Because when the law takes its course that is what we call justice. Both your driver and then bodyguard on record lied on oath which is a criminal offense as per the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda,” said Katuntu.
On top of that Katuntu, noted that the issue of documents being taken out of Bank of Uganda in breaching of security terms is still under on the table for further investigations.
“From the evidence we see properties of Bank of Uganda going out without authorisation and this must be investigated. And as Parliament we don’t set people free, that is not our job, the law is going define its justice,” said Katuntu.
