Teachers have been commended for the tremendous work done to eliminate illiteracy levels worldwide.
The Ntungamo district speaker Elijah Atuhaire, also assured teachers in the district they are committed to work upon the betterment of their wellbeing.
He was speaking at a function to preside over the World Teachers Day for Ntungamo district at Rubaare Muslim Primary School in Rubaare Town council.
At the same function, the district education officer Arigye Odomaro asked teachers to work hard and fight against the ongoing school drop out in the region if they are safe guard their employment.
Arigye also called upon all stakeholders participate in the forthcoming World hand washing day which falls on every 15thOctober in order to promote sanitation and hygiene at school.
The Ntungamo district UNATU chairperson Kabangizi Gideons challenged government to improve welfare and motivation of teachers saying that some of them are facing hurdles of traveling long distances to schools due to lack of accommodation.
Kabangizi also tasked teachers to exhibit respect and integrity if they are to be respected too.
The day was celebrated under the theme” the right to education means right to a qualified teacher” and National celebrations was held in Fort Portal Kabarole District.
