Traders in kikuubo, Kampala under their umbrella body Kikuubo Business Community Association have today expressed concern over the heavy taxes imposed on them by Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) and the failure by government to re-organize them as Ugandans who are also entitled to the national cake.
The traders who met the Minister for Kampala Betty Olive Namisango Kamya at their offices at kikuubo complained about the failure by government to rehabilitate their road and installing cameras to curb insecurity in the area.
Through their chairman Hajji Muhammad Katimbo, the traders also complained to the minister about the heavy taxes levied from the traders by Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) which they say has oppressed them.
‘’We also want to share on the national cake but the government looks to have forgotten us but they should remember that kikuubo pays more taxes than any other part of the country and the taxes imposed on us are pushing us out of business and the way its collected leaves us discontented’’ said Hajji Katimbo.
In her response, Kamya promised to take their concerns to the cabinet including the issue of taxes.
“In the 80s, for us who existed we know what this peace means therefore young people avoid misusing this peace but the other concerns traders have raised will be taken to the respective authorities, ’’said Kamya.
