The chairman board of trustees for the International Women Coffee Association Victoria Sekitoleko has urged wives to convince their partners to take more coffee.

While giving her remarks on the fourth International Coffee Day celebrations that took place at Mukono Zonal Agricultural, Research and Development Institute (MUZARD) on Thursday, Ms Sekitoleko added that coffee is ‘a medicine that relieves one from over forgetting’.

“Let us have a small battle with our men at home about coffee. They must love and appreciate the role we play though coffee,” noted Sekitoleko.

“When you turn 50 years of age, you start to forget. But when you take coffee, you won’t have a better medicine for this disease.”

She highlighted that women play very many roles in the coffee industry; from the time of planting, harvesting but when it comes time for selling, men join in and women end up gaining the least penny.

It is on this note that Sekitoleko urged all women to always get involved in various dialogues to help them push their voice.

The function was graced by the minister for Agriculture, animal industry and fisheries Hon Vincent Bamulangaki Sempijja who commended the women for the good work done towards moving the coffee industry.

Sempijja said that the size of Uganda’s economic growth has increased from USD1.6billion in 2017 to USD25.9billion as of 2017. According to Sempijja, 80 per cent of the strength in this growth is brought about by women.
