As the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) set to mark 20 years of existence early November this year Ugandans have been called upon to embrace tree planting as the way to conserve environment.

This was revealed on Friday by Alice Nyangoma from UCC who represented Eng Godfrey Mutabazi the director Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) during the exercise to plant 7,000 eucalyptus trees at Muntuyera High school Kitunga in Kajara county Ntungamo District.

Ms Nyangoma noted that the environment is currently under threat from various activities that are being undertaken by mankind yet people rely on the environment for livelihood.

She added that information  and communication technology and environment are intertwines explaining that papers are got from trees and they choose Muntuyera H/S- Kitunga because of being a historical school and  it has ample land for development.

She said that the ceremony planned for this year is being preceded by the tree planting because the World is being faced with challenges of global warming, drought, landslide among others all caused by environmental degradation.

Nyangoma noted that this year celebrations will be held on November, 3rd at Speke Resort Munyonyo Kampala under the theme “20years of achievements, celebrating past, present and the future” and president Museveni is expected to grace the celebrations.

The Uganda Communications Commission was established by the Uganda Communications Act 1997 and it has been the communication regulator since 1998.

The head teacher Muntuyera H/S –Kitunga Twine Joseph Muganga hailed the UCC for a good partnership assuring them to look after the trees planted for fire wood and timber.

Muganga who is three months old in office said that the UCC is committed to plant 7000 trees on 7.2 acres of Kimiranku land which has been idle for quiet long.

Muntuyera High School Kitunga is a boy’s secondary school located exactly 2km from Rwashamaire Town council Kajara county Ntungamo district, south western Uganda.

The school was named after Enock Ruzima Muntuyera, the father of Maj Gen. Mugisha Muntu, who donated land to the school where it is build over 50 years ago.

The delegation was welcomed by village chairperson of Kitunga cell Sam Muhwezi.
