The leader of the Bamasaba cultural institution has asked President Museveni to fund his institution because it’s broke.
Mr Bob Mushikori said while addressing a jubilant crowd gathering to kick off Imbalu initiation rites, that it was a pain pulling off the imbalu fest event due to financial constraints. He said money had to be fundraised from members of Parliament. However insiders this website has spoken to point to a high level of disorganisation amongst the Bamasaba leaders. The source who preferred anonymity to speak freely about the matter said Bagisu MPs donated only sh 7 million towards organising the fete which attracted a crowd of more than 100,000 from the districts making up Bugisu sub region and some parts of Kenya.
Mushikori asked the government to set up an independent ministry outside gender, to deal with cultural affairs, and through which it can fund cultural activities. He said the government also needed to treat all cultural institutions the same way.
Through energy minister Irene Muloni who was the chief guest, President Museveni donated sh10 million towards organising the fete. Culture minister Peace Mutuzo who apologised to Bamasaba, delivered sh2million, one from her pockets and the other from the Ministry of Gender towards organising the circumcision fete.
