By Moses Kizito Buule

The Minister of State for Water Ronald Kibuule has cautioned newly elected local council I (LC I) chairmen against siding with unscrupulous husbands to sell their bibanja behind the backs of their wives and children, to avoid cases of throwing families out of their legal homes which he said are abundant.

He also advised them to keep clear of temptations of multiple sale of land, warning that many of their colleagues were not returned into office, while many been jailed for selling land to more than purchaser.

“I am speaking from experience because I have been subjected to such a case when I bought land I thought belonged to the seller, only to see another owner come up on the way, and I am now in court over the matter”, the
minister said without elaborating.

Kibuule who is also the |member parliament for Mukono North was on Sunday addressing celebrants at the election victory party for Nama sub-county NRM chairman Noah Katuka who was returned as the LC I Chairman for Namawojjolo East village in the recent elections.

LCI chairman-elect Noah Katuka (yellow NRM shirt) thanking his voters for having re elected him into office.

Katuka trounced two fellow NRM sympathizers Kato Nsimbe and Ephraim Wafula who stood against him on independent tickets, and collected 99 and two votes respectively against his 190. Both men who attended the party,
conceded defeat and pledged to work with him in developing their village.

Kibuule praised the election system of lining behind candidates of voters’ choices, saying it rules out malpractices of whatever nature, and advised opposition politicians who he said always make claims of having been rigged out of victory, to embrace and support the system.

“This system was introduced by President Museveni during elections of Resistance Council (RC) elections and then, there were no claims of ‘our votes have been stolen’ commonly sounded by losers, and I want to suggest to the electoral commission that the system is revived at all levels of elections in future.

He thanked the two who lost to Katuka for honouring the verdict of the voters, to the extent of agreeing to work with him in elevating their village to higher status, and as a token of appreciation, promised to provide two  stand pipes selling water at very low charges.

Minister Kibuule joins Katuka (second left) in cutting a cake at the celebrations for his election victory at Namawojjolo on Sunday

He said, “Namawojjolo is famous even beyond Uganda’s borders especially because of our delicious roast chicken, and we need to join hands to give it a shining outlook because it is our mirror by which travelers determine our cleanliness levels”.

In his inaugural speech, the chairman-elect Noah Katuka disclosed that a site for putting up a garbage collection and recycling plant, adding that he has identified willing funders to support setting up of the project without encroaching on residents’ personal pockets.
