Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander CP. Moses Kafeero has warned police officers against human rights violation.
He called upon officers to always observe and respect all human rights and freedoms while performing their functions.
He cited the need to respect human dignity, refraining from ill treatment, over detention, torture, discrimination among social classes, use of excessive force, arbitrary and illegal arrests.
“Adherence to human rights guidelines as stipulated by the Uganda Human Rights Commission Act shall help eliminate the negative reports that have over time affected the institution,” he said.
He also cautioned against intrigue, urging officers to desist from wasting their energies on fighting one another but rather focus on competence and integrity based activities.
This, CP Kafeero said while speaking to area commanders of KMP North at Kawanda where he guided on the mode of community policing.
He advised the commanders to always conduct village meetings and connect with people on the grassroots especially those considered social outcasts for they impact most on the security of Uganda.
