The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tunisia – Mr. Khemaies Jhinaoui received Uganda’s new Ambassador in Tunisia with residence in Algiers, John Chrysostom Alintuma Nsambu, who presented him a copy of his Letters of Credence.

On the occasion, the Minister congratulated the Ambassador upon presentation of copies of his Credentials. He affirmed Tunisia’s new foreign policy strategy which focuses on enhancing diplomatic relations across Africa.

On his part Ambassador Nsambu expressed gratitude for the warm reception accorded and conveyed greetings from the President of Uganda. The Ambassador thanked Tunisia for hosting the Uganda Liaison Office for over 2 years, when the Uganda Embassy in Tripoli relocated its operations to Tunis in 2014 due to instability in Libya.

The Ambassador appreciated the new Tunisia foreign policy strategy. He noted that, it is in accordance with the Continental Free Trade Area and Action of Boosting IntraAfrica Trade decisions endorsed by Africa Heads of State during the 2012 18th Ordinary Session and 2016 AU Summit held in Addis Ababa and Kigali respectively.

The Minister noted that, in a bid to expedite continental integration, in 2017 Tunisia signed the COMESA Treaty for admission to the regional economic community as its 20th member state.

During the bilateral discussions, they agreed to reinvigorating cooperation by activating the Uganda – Tunisia Joint Commission. Areas of interest include ICT, Higher and Vocational Education, Women and Health, Energy, Tourism, Business to Business Contacts and Economic Cooperation Agreements.

The President congratulated the new Ambassador upon presentation of his credentials. He reaffirmed Tunisia’s new foreign policy strategy which focuses on enhancing relations across Africa.

He called for boosting bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

Nsambu is also Uganda’s ambassador in a number of North Africa countries including Algeria and Mauritania.
