Thousands of people flocked to Kamwenge today for the consecration and enthronement of the Rt. Rev. George Turyasingura as the 2nd Bishop of East Rwenzori Diocese.
The Christians of the Diocese honoured their 1st Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Edward Bamucwanira, by giving him a car for his retirement.
Archbishop Stanley Ntagali presided over the colourful service and Bishop Nathan Ahimbisibwe, the Bishop of South Ankole Diocese, preached a powerful sermon from Zechariah 3.
He called the congregation to repentance, especially to stop carrying grudges against others because it is a heavy burden they cannot manage.
Instead, he exhorted them to turn to Jesus to be saved from the fire.
“The Lord,” he said, “is engaged in the work of snatching people from where the devil is tormenting them.”
The new Bishop laid out an ambitious vision in his charge to build on the evangelistic and development work of his predecessor.
The Rt. Hon. Ruhakana Ruganda, Prime Minister of Uganda, represented the President and presented the newly consecrated Bishop with a new car to facilitate his pastoral work.
