The committee on Legal and Parliamentary Affairs today received views from Democratic Party (DP), Conservative Party (CP), and JEEMA over the Constitution Amendment Bill No 2 of 2017.

The amendment of article 102b of the constitution aims at scrapping the age limit cap which will enable President Yoweri Museveni stand for president in 2021 even after clocking 75 years of age.

DP President Norbert Mao likened the constitution to Jesus being prosecuted & handed to Pilate (Speaker) who’ll hand it over to the mob thus calling upon all right minded Ugandan to detest the constitutional amendment.

He also observed that police at parliament obstructed him from entering Parliament with his tyre wrapper labeled “Kogikwatako” since it’s a form of demonstration.

He expressed his protest towards the treatment by the parliamentary police to the committee.

Meanwhile, CP President Ken Lukyamuzi advised the committee to squash the bill which was moved by Igara West MP Raphael Magyezi.

He said the bill is a ploy to make Museveni a life president.
