President Yoweri Museveni has told a visiting Iranian delegation that Uganda has got abundant opportunities in agro-processing. He made the remarks at State House, Entebbe in a meeting with the Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Mohammad Javad Zarif, who is heading a delegation to Uganda.

“We have got abundant opportunities in the processing of agro-products that include grains and fruits. There are also high possibilities of adding value to our minerals with a target of feeding the export market,” he said.

The Iranian delegation includes heads of various sectors such as banking, shipping, Tehran Chamber of Commerce and Iran Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Museveni urged the Iranian visitors to work out means of funding Uganda’s electric cars project since Uganda’s scientists have already made good progress in that venture. He informed the delegation there are wide opportunities in using the niobium mineral that is an ingredient in the manufacture of car batteries.

The Iran Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammad Javad Zarif agreed to work with Uganda towards facilitating the funding of the electric cars in Uganda. He also expressed interest in expanding banking services in Uganda and that Iran is interested in investing in the oil and agricultural sectors.

State Minister for International Relations, Hon. Okello Oryem, attended the meeting.
