Vipers Sports Club custodian Ismail Watenga has won the club’s player of the month of September award for his electric start to the 2017/18 Azam Uganda Premier League season.

Watenga was recognized for his solid performance which saw him keep four clean sheets last month as the Venoms drew against Bright Stars (0-0), beat BUL FC (1-0), SC Villa (1-0) and Masavu FC (2-0).

He beat competition from midfielder Tadeo Lwanga and striker Milton Karisa who equally had a good month.

In an interview, the Cranes second goalkeeper said: “I am happy for winning this award and l will work hard to win more of this”

“I can only thank my teammates, coaches that help me achieve this. I’m just saving the balls not enter the net, but they are the ones that are helping me do it.”

He said he felt that this season is for vipers if they get everything right since they have one of the best squad in the league.

“Hopefully we go all the way. We finished third last season and we always want to improve and progress, and so to do that we have to finish first.”

Yesterday Vipers moved joint top of the Azam Uganda Premier League despite being held to a 1-1 draw by visiting Soana at the St. Mary’s Stadium.
