The Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC) for Somalia, Ambassador Francisco Madeira, strongly condemns the terrorist attack on the residents of Mogadishu, on Saturday afternoon, that led to the loss of life and property.

The barbaric attack points to a trend in which areas known for vibrant activity and thriving businesses are targeted. The cowardly act attests to the deliberate effort by Al-Shabaab to deter progress being made by hardworking Somalis to stabilize their country.

“It is this strength and resilience of the great people of Somalia that will contain and defeat Al-Shabaab and continue to pave the way for the rebuilding of the country. We should, together transform this tragic attack into renewed strength and resolve to continue working to restore peace and stability in Somalia,” Ambassador Madeira said.

He further reiterated the commitment of AMISOM to stand by the people of Somalia and the Somali National Security Forces in this effort.

Ambassador Madeira commiserates with the families who lost their loved ones and wishes quick recovery to the wounded.
