Police have used teargas and live ammunitions to disperse angry students of Busitema University who wanted to teach their counterparts of Makerere University a lesson today 12th October, 2017, for having invaded their lecturers’ dining room.

According to reports, Makerere university students who had gone to fan their football team, in a match that was scheduled to start at 2:00 pm as part of the Inter University Football Competitions, forcefully entered the dining room and ate all the food.

This provoked anger among Busitema students who violently attacked the Makerereans, in an effort to teach them a lesson for their abhorrent conduct. Even after apologizing, the aggrieved students of Busitema went on with their move to seriously attack the Makerereans.

This led to police intervention and these, together with the military fired live ammunitions and teargas to disperse the fighting students. Two students from Makerere University were also arrested in the scuffle with the police.

Consequently, the match was cancelled and postponed to a later date which is not yet known.

Earlier on , when they were heading to Busitema at about 10:00 am, Makerere students’ bus was intercepted near Lugazi town by police on grounds that the occupants had wrapped red ribbons around their heads signifying the “Togikwatako” demonstrations which were banned by  IGP Gen Kale Kayihura.

“We shall not accept your fujjo” one of the interceptor policemen said. After a series of negotiations, the bus was allowed to proceed after handing over the red ribbons to the police.
