Sports Journalists under their Umbrella body Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) have come out to condemn the growing concern of hooliganism and violence during games.
This comes days after the violent scenes at St. Mary’s Kitende during a Uganda Premier League game between Vipers SC and SC Villa.
In the USPA monthly assembly convened at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala, the sports scribe passed a motion to condemn acts of hooliganism at sports events.
USPA President Sabitti Muwanga indicated it is a great move for journalists to play an integral role in fighting violence.
“We are the mirror of society and thus we ought to come out whenever such regrettable cases happen in society, ” he said.
“If we come out with a strong voice to condemn hooliganism at sports events, I believe we have the ability to sensitize the public and curb the voice,” Muwanga added.
Part of the fence stadium at St.Mary’s was broken with several other properties vandalized.
USPA joins Vipers Patron Lawrence Mulindwa, Fufa President Moses Magogo, UPL coaches Mike Mutebi (KCCA FC), Mujib Kasule (Proline) and Asaph Mwebaze (Maroons) who have come out to vehemently condemn hooliganism.
