The North Indian Cultural Association of Uganda (NICA) in partnership with the Ministry of Health have treated over 200 eye patients free of charge.
The patients were diagnosed and treated during a three day surgery eye camp at Mulago Hospital.
The camp was officially launched on 25th August by state minister for health Sarah Opendi.
During the eye camp, NICA chairman Dharmendra Agarwal said they believe in helping the needy with the gift of sight due the growing number of eye complications amongst people.
“With the growing number of eye complications amongst people, we believe that helping the needy with the gift of sight,” said Agarwal adding that through the monthly eye camps, the association intends to sort out sight challenges in more than 7000 people by end of this year.
Isaac Kigozi, the NICA project coordinator revealed that they are now set for a two days eye camp in Luweero District next month.
The association has so far carried out 14 free eye camps, scanned 5066 patients, distributed 2449 free spectacles and given 1710 free treatment.
