St Mary’s secondary school Kitende (SMASK) who are also partners of Vipers sports club were given a hero’s welcome back from Gulu where had been competing in the 2017 East Africa secondary schools games.
SMASK who were representing Uganda in this competition won three medals ; one gold for Netball and football respectively and silver for Basketball.
Hundreds of fans gathered along Entebbe road and disrupted flow of traffic for hours as they waited for the SMASK entourage that was headed for Kitende.
SMASK defeated national championships Jinja secondary school 1-0 in added, extra time thanks to a penalty by Ashraf ‘Fadiga’ Bamuturaki to lift their 12th title.
The victory ended the school’s two year trophy drought in this competition having failed to win in 2015 and 2016.
Upon arrival at Kitende,the ecstatic students were welcomed by the teachers ,fans, members of the media and SMASK executive director and Vipers president Lawrence Mulindwa to whom they presented the trophies and medals.
‘We prepared well and early and we are not surprised to have come out triumphant. We are champions not by mistake,’ stated Mulindwa while addressing the SMASK teams.
Ashraf Bamuturaki who captained the football team expressed appreciation to the director who has been supportive to the team at all times.
The teams were there after served lunch before being sent off for holidays.
