Makerere among top 5 universities in Africa

Uganda’s biggest and oldest higher institute of learning Makerere University has once again scooped a place in the top five universities in Africa.

The prestigious university is among the 25 institutions which have featured in the Times Higher Education’s ranking of the top academic institutions in the world 2016-2017.

South Africa and Uganda are the only countries in Africa which made it to the top 500 universities in the world whereby University of Cape Town topped the list in Africa and ranked 148 worldwide, University of Wittwatersrand second in Africa and 182 across the globe whereas Makerere University and University of Stellenbosch tied for third and ranked 401 in the world.

The ranking rates institutions using over 13 indicators from research and teaching.
