Nation Media Group has suspended a senior journalist after he was accused of attempting to rape a girl intern at gun point at office premises.

Bosses at NMG headquarters in Nairobi moved on Thursday to suspend the top journalist (names withheld) after the intern said he withdrew a pistol as he demanded for sexual favours from her.

The lady who claims turned down the advances, however also claims the journalist who headed the company’s bureau in Kisumu City, did not penetrate her.

The journalist, who denies the accusations, says the reports are fabricated to deny him an opportunity to report on the upcoming elections in Kenya. First, he was relocated to headquarters in Nairobi, before asking him to sit out.

The incident allegedly took place two weeks ago.  It is not clear where from the journalist got the pistol and what its purpose was, save for this incident.

However, the journalist posted on his wall on Friday afternoon, “Comrades. It has been a difficult day for me. I am most perturbed by claims that I threatened a colleague with a gun. The claims are shocking, malicious and totally false. I have never owned a gun. Not even touched it. The claims are being pushed by dark forces with the aim of having me removed from job. I am being framed up. It is a trying time as we head to the elections. Investigations are ongoing and I am sure I will be vindicated. I am ready to face my accuser. The truth shall come out. My God reigns. He walks with me every step of the way. I shall overcome.”
