Hundreds of Ugandans, led by tourism state minister Godfrey Kiwanda, and Uganda Tourism Board chair Daudi Migereko on Wednesday descended on Entebbe Airport to welcome the newly-crowned Miss World Africa Quiin Abenakyo.

Former Miss Uganda winners and representatives from the Busoga kingdom were also present as Abenakyo returned home from Sanya, China, where she has spent five weeks.

In China, Abenakyo came third in the Miss World contest, behind Mexico’s Vanessa Ponce de Leon and Thailand’s Nicolene Limsnukan.

The beauty queen, dressed in a blue dress, tiara and sash arrived in the country aboard an Emirates. She was accompanied by Miss Uganda Foundation CEO Brenda Nanyonjo.

“I am glad I did this for my country,” she said during a brief press conference held at Entebbe Airport.

“I am out of words but really so humbled for this warm welcome. I am even out of words but I’ll talk about everything later.”

A press conference is scheduled for Thursday morning at Kampala Sheraton Hotel, according to Ali Allibhai, the CEO Talent Africa.

Later in the evening, a Shs50,000 welcome party will be held in Rwenzori Ballroom.

Minister Kiwanda, who pledged total commitment from the government, also thanked Abenakyo for representing the country.
“Welcome home. This is your home,” he said.
