The invite from UG Records management had promised all friends and lovers of good music ‘fresh talent’.

And when the skies opened up on Thursday night, hundreds of revelers who had converged at Lit Lounge, Bukoto, to witness the unveiling of Roger Kent and Wendy Thelma scampered for shelter.

By then, the two musicians, newly signed to the all-new UG Records, had already wowed the crowd with a live performance of their own songs – Cheza Mummy and Wotoba respectively.

Roger Kent said he was happy to join UG Records

The first revelers started trickling in as early as 5pm. By 8pm, the venue was full, with the crowd comprising music managers, promoters, media personalities among others.

“Music has always been my passion and my music coming to life makes me proud. The confidence I have in myself has grown and so has my faith in what I still want to achieve,” 20-year-old Wendy said, before singing the tribute mash up in honour of the late Mowzey Radio.

The mashup, a four-minute mix of fallen Goodlyf musician Moze Radio’s songs – Kuku, Gutamiza, Dudu, Nkwetaga, Bikola, Neera, Ngenda Maaso, Zino Enaku and Remember me- made her an instant internet sensation in March this year.

Her scintillating vocals on that tribute ensured it quickly went viral and an opportunity to work with UG Records, which was returning from a six-year hiatus.

Wendy also performed the Moze Radio mashup tribute

“It has taken a lot of commitment and hard work recording in studio. Everything has been relatively calm and worthwhile and I am thankful to the UG Records management for that.”

Kent seemed to agree with her, arguing that working with the UG Records team has so far been an amazing experience and milestone.

“I’m excited to be sharing the work that we have been putting together,” the gifted singer, song-writer and producer, said.

Before joining UG Records, Kent – a multi-talented performer who is at home in various music genres – was Wendy’s manager, investing the little he had in writing songs for her and shooting demo videos for them.

He is also credited for refusing to let go of Wendy when several music managers tried to woo her.

And their chemistry was recognizable as they went about singing some of their older songs and interacting with guests.

“I strongly believe that if it is a person’s time, it is theirs. God never answers our prayers at the same time. At times the people we help are the vessels through which our blessings are channeled,” he said.

As the last one of guests left at around 1am, one could not help but notice that UG Records had unveiled fresh talent. Truly refreshing music awaits.
