Uganda’s most popular Facebook groups Mama Tendo and Rebel Parents might be no more if threats to close them come to pass.
The government, through the chairperson of the Pornography Control Committee Dr Annette Kezaabu has vowed to shut down the Facebook on accusations of spreading pornography.

Dr Kezaabu was speaking to NTV Uganda on Wednesday morning saying her efforts to fight pornography had paid off by arresting administrators of groups such as Mama Tendo.
The groups are some of the largest Facebook groups providing information to members ranging from parenting, jobs, relationships, medicine, et al.

However, Dr Kezaabu was emphatic, focusing on Mama Tendo, accusing members of the closed group of distributing pornography.
“We are going to close it,” she told NTV.
Kezaabu said that the government was now using technology to fight pornography and a number of people have been arrested.

She said her committee have used Uganda Communications Commission technical services to trace the originators of porn materials.
She said however that the pornography problem in Uganda was growing a burden and many people were addicted to it. She added, “We are overwhelmed by the number of people seeking help for recovery from porn addiction.

Among the groups with a porn problem, Dr Kezaabu said, “A big number of students are addicted to pornography.”
Kezaabu appealed to government to release funds to set up a one stop center for people seeking help to recover from pornography.
